Music School on the Gowanus Canal – The site is characterized by fragmented, geometrical elements — a canal, a street and horizontal solid surfaces (earth and concrete)—and the natural element here, water, is contained within a manmade enclosure. The building’s geometry is fractured too: Walls and space enclosures define independent geometrical shapes that appear to be holding the site elements together. The auditorium is a floating glass box supported and protected by the solid elements adjacent to it. The building becomes inseparable from of the site.
