Gut renovation of a five-story townhouse in a historic district on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The owner's requirements included adding a residential elevator and deepening the existing cellar to achieve a 9-foot-high ceiling for wine storage. While remaining in compliance with Landmark Preservation Committee requirements, the building was structurally reinforced and the existing walls were underpinned to allow deepening of the cellar.
